The coffee workers co-operative Indian Coffee House chain of coffee shops has been serving coffee and snacks since the 1950s. This branch in College Street, Kolkata has been attracting academics, politicians, artists, writers and poets for long sessions of "adda" or talking coffee. The profits of these historic coffee shops are under strain from competition from modern coffee shops which have sprung up in recent years.
